$5 Buys Endo Hope in Third World

Dear Friend of the Endometriosis Association,

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in the worldwide endometriosis movement! It is because of members like you that we have been able to make a difference for women, girls, and families affected by endometriosis all over the world for 29 years!

I am writing to you now because we really need your help. The Association will be attending FIGO in Africa in October, the biggest meeting in our field. This meeting occurs every three years and attracts 9,000 or more ob/gyns from all over the world. At the last FIGO meeting (in 2006), we were overrun with requests for the Association’s book, Overcoming Endometriosis. We distributed 2,000 copies and could have distributed 500-600 more. In fact, we were absolutely swept off our feet by the huge demand for Association materials at the conference and every single paper, brochure, and book that we brought along was snapped up.

For many physicians from the developing world, FIGO is the only international meeting they attend because it caters to their particular needs. Please consider helping those even less fortunate than those of us with endo in the developed world. Can you imagine living in a country where nothing is done for you no matter how bad your pain – not even pain killers!

I am asking for your help. We are eager to distribute books and other materials that would be useful for women in developing countries at FIGO. Among the items that would be highly useful in certain target countries (including Thailand, Indonesia, India, and 17 African countries) is our first book, Overcoming Endometriosis. We have the books but cannot give them away for free. Can you help us with this? Just $5 will put the book into the hands of someone who really needs it.

Thank you so much for anything you can do. You can download the form here to respond by mail or you may click here to donate online

2000 copies of Overcoming Endometriosis distributed to doctors from Third World countries at FIGO, the world's largest medical conference in ob/gyn. Pictured here is the beautiful architectural tower of books built by Shu Lay Lee, the Associations Asian representative. She and Mary Lou Ballweg, EA President and Executive Director, were swept off their feet by the huge demand for Association materials at the conference, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in November.

It was heartening to know that we are making a difference distributing the free copies of the Association's first book— and could have distributed 500-600 more!—for those in countries where nothing is done for women and girls in pain, not even painkillers.

We hope to distribute more copies of Overcoming Endometriosis, the Association's first book, which is at the appropriate level for Third World countries, in upcoming conferences. Thanks to all the members who helped make distribution of the book for free possible! (We need support for our international work—please consider helping those even less fortunate than those of us with endo in the developed world through a donation to the Association.)
